Definition: This field indicates the functional involvement with the activity being transmitted (e.g., Case Manager, Evaluator, Transcriber, Nurse Care Practitioner, Midwife, Physician Assistant, etc.). Refer to User-defined table 0443 _ Provider role for valid values. When the ROL segment is used in conjunction with the Attending, Referring, or Admitting physician in the PV1 segment, the HL7 specified table values must be used. Additional site negotiated values are allowed.
Note: Table 0443 appears to have the similar use and similar values as Table 0286, but supports a more generic concept.
