Definition: From V2.5 onward, this field has been retained for backward compatibility only. It is recommended to use PID-3 - Patient Identifier List for all patient identifiers. When used for backward compatibility, this field contains the patient_s driver_s license number. The default of the second component is the state in which the patient_s license is registered.
