Why HL7 Workbench
Most HL7 tools solve one problem. A parser here. A spec viewer there. A terminology lookup somewhere else. HL7 Workbench brings them together.
One tool for the entire HL7 ecosystem.
Parse and validate HL7 v2 messages against schemas for all 14 published versions (2.1 through 2.9). Look up segment definitions, data types, and table values without leaving the parser. Validate coded fields against 129 clinical vocabularies including SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, and RxNorm, in real time.
Browse specifications, not PDFs.
The specification browser renders HL7 documentation with full cross-referencing: segments link to their data types, data types link to their components, tables link to their FHIR value set equivalents. Navigate across versions. Search across all 14 v2 versions simultaneously.
FHIR is not an afterthought.
Browse FHIR R4 and R5 resources, profiles, extensions, and value sets. Explore 75+ implementation guides including US Core, Da Vinci, mCODE, IPA, and C-CDA on FHIR. See how v2 segments map to FHIR resources with the integrated mapping browser.
Your data stays on your machine.
Parsing runs entirely in the browser, and no Protected Health Information is transmitted to or stored on the server. Terminology validation is optional and checks only bare vocabulary codes, never patient data — turn it off, or enable Offline Mode, to keep everything fully local. Use PHI masking to redact or de-identify sensitive fields. Messages are encrypted with AES-GCM when stored locally.
Built for engineers, not managers.
