A SOP (Service-Object Pair) Class pairs an Information Object Definition (IOD) with a DIMSE service. In practice it's what two DICOM nodes negotiate when they associate — "I want to send you Patient/Study Only Query/Retrieve Information Model - MOVE, are you willing to store it?"

This SOP Class is retired from the current DICOM Standard. Legacy systems may still use it for compatibility; new implementations should prefer the active replacement.
